Praying the Promises Believing

Season #1

Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching[a] over my word

to perform it.” Jeremiah 1:12

How the Character of God Impacts the Promises of God:

Andrew Murray, “There is something more necessary than the effort to exercise faith in each separate promise that comes to our attention. That is the cultivation of a trustful attitude toward God—the habit of always thinking of Him, of His ways and of His works, with bright confident hopefulness. In such soil alone the individual promises take root and grow up.”

God is FAITHFUL.

God is HONEST.

God is RELIABLE.

God is CERTAIN TO DO WHAT HE SAYS HE WILL DO.

How the Promises of God Declare the Presence of God

“The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.”

Psalm 37:23 NLT

When you pray the promises you are inviting the presence and power of God to enter into the details of your life and take control of the circumstances. You are trusting Him to do what He knows is best, and to reveal Himself to you and to those around you as He does.

God is eager to release and demonstrate His power on the earth.

2 Chronicles 16:9, KJV, “For the eyes of the LORD roam to and fro over all the earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are fully devoted to Him.”

Jesus Himself taught His disciples to pray, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:10

Life for the Christian is a continual battle to stand firm on the promises of God and to penetrate arguments and pretensions that set themselves up against the knowledge of God. (2 Corinthians 10:5)

How to take God’s promises and make them work for you (and others)

Here are 3 steps to making the promises work for you and those you are praying with.

  1.   Embrace an all or nothing mindset.

“Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.” Psalm 73:25

  1.   Be Surrendered and Satisfied.

Surrender definition: cease resistance and submit to authority.

To be satisfied in surrender is to shout AMEN! (SO BE IT!) to the glory of God on this side or our answered prayers!

For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.” 2 Corinthians 1:20 NIV

  1.   Cultivate an Attitude of Gratitude

When you cultivate an attitude of gratitude your eyes are opened to how God’s promises fit into your life. You begin to see what God is already doing and you fuel your faith regarding what He’s about to be doing!

How to Know When God’s Kept His Promise to You

God kept His promise to you the minute He made it.

God doesn’t heckle you.

God doesn’t mess with you.

Instead, God challenges you to take the promises He’s given you no hold fast to them but holding tight to Him.

God Himself promises to keep His promises!

Psalm 145:13, “The LORD is faithful to all His promises and loving toward all He has made.”

Joshua 21:45, “Not one of the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.”

Lamentations 2:17a, “The Lord has done what he planned; he has fulfilled his word, which he decreed long ago…”

Philippians 1:6, “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

And, Jeremiah 1:12, “The Lord said to me, ‘You have seen correctly, for I am watching over my word to perform it.’”

Let’s not just pray for our patrons. Let’s pray with confidence knowing that He who promised is faithful.
